Bee beauty - once again

It is with great pleasure and no little envy that I read Val Littlewood's blog - her illustrations are exquisite and never more so than when she is working on/with bees.  Recently she's been taking us through the process of selecting the subject, then creating the image.  Her subject is snail shell bees (osmia bicolour). Have you ever heard of these?  They find a snail shell, and camouflage it by burying it or covering it with pine needles.  Truly amazing stuff.  There are great pics on Val's blog and this image of a bee on a broomstick

comes from Keith Balmer's blog here.
